What is BSc Food Technology?

BSc in Food Technology (Bachelor of Food Technology) is a 3-year undergraduate program that is divided into 6 semesters. This undergraduate degree involves the modern study in techniques and activities which are related to preserving, processing, and manufacturing of food.

In BSc Food Technology, the students can learn different techniques of food processing and food preservation.

BSc Food Technology course gives students a deeper understanding of the technical and scientific approaches which are required to understand the nature of raw food materials. The various subjects included in this course are Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Nutrition, Microbiology, etc.

The Scope of this course is increasing every-day and a large number of Job openings are made. A BSc Food Technology graduate can start his/her career as a Food Technologist, Organic Chemist, Technical Brewer, Production Manager, Hotels and Restaurants, Biochemists, Home Economists, Research, etc. or can for the post-graduation level degree in MSc Food Technology, M.Tech Food Technology if you are interested in the technical department. It is recommended to take the post-graduation level degree also for a better outcome.

The fee structure of BSc Food Technology is around Rs. 20,000 per semester (taken consider of college under University of Calicut), The fee can vary according to the type of college whether it is aided or unaided.

The Eligibility criteria to apply for BSc Food Technology course is to qualify 12th from any recognized board of institution with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as your main subjects.

About Project Work

During the final year, you have to submit your Main Project.

Objective of Project Work: Students of B.Sc. Food Technology should undergo a project/ in plant training work for a period of 15 days during the sixth semester. The programme is arranged by the department of
Food Technology in consultation with the food industries inside and outside Kerala. The purpose
of the programme is to get hands-on experience on various aspects of food industries that form
the strong foundation for the young food technologists.
